OIJAXGE LODGE OPENED. (By Telegraph—Snecial Correspondent.! Palmerston, March 23. The Manawatu Ladies' Golf Club has elected the. following office-bearers for the ensuing year:—Captain, Mrs. J. P. Inn'es; hon. secretary, Mrs. H. C. Millsop; committee, Mesdamcs L. A. Abraham, Bealc, and Warburton, and the captain and secretary. Trophies for competition have been donated by Mrs. J. P. limes for the senior A monthly bogey competition, by Mrs. L. A. Abraham lor the senior li monthly medal matches, by Mrs. Warbnrton for the senior R monthly bogey competitions, by Mrs. 0. H. Porritt tor the junior monthly bogey matches, by Mrs. 1\ Seifert and Miss 0. M'Lennan for the single afternoon's game, by Mrs. L. Beifort for competition by all seniors who gain second or third jilace in any general club competition during the season, by Miss Wray for tho best collective score made on medal days, and by Miss Mellsop and Mrs. Tripe for senior and junior handicap status competition for match play. New members have been elected as follows:—Playing, Mrs. J. D. Hall, Mrs, Whitmore. Miss Tripe, Miss Wykls; honorary, Mesdames Handen and Levien. A return croquet match between Wanganui 'and Palmerston is to be played at Wanganui oil March 30. Two matches have been played this season between these towns, each resulting in a tie. Mr. A. It. Rogers "has presented the Manawatu.Rugby Football Union with a handsome silver cup for competition among the Palmerston clubs. The trophy is to .be won twice in succession or three times, at intervals, other conditions being left to the Management Committee to arrange. The programme for the Manawatn Boxing Association's tournament on April 5 was drawn tip at a meeting of the committee last night. The chief event will be the fifteen-round match between the professionals "Tim" Tracey and "Sailor" Duffy.- The amateur bouts will be as follow:—Wilson v. Porter (both Wellington); Ben Tracey (Wellington) v. Kerr (Nelson);. Ellis (Wellington) v. Trcweek (Palmerston). The initial gathering of the Aokautere Sports Club, held in Mr. S. R. Lancaster's paddock, Fitzherbort East, yesterday, was a success. There was a large attendance, including ..many . from Palmerston. All. • the events on the programme, which was. a lengthy one, were keenly contestedi and ' the officials of the club, more especially the president (Mr. T. F. Kelling), worked hard to make tho gathering "go." The following are the results of-the principal events:—loo yards handicap: W. Hughes (10yds), 1; C. Mexted (11yds.), 2. 220 vards handicap: W. Hughes (10yds.), 1; G. Greer (22yds.), 2. Tilting in the ring: W. - Stewart, .1; E. Lancaster. 2. 120 yards hurdle handicap: W. Hughes (owe 9yds.), 1; L. Mexted (scri), 2. 440' yards, handicap: J. Buick's Totara, 2. 880 yards handicap: G. Terry (60yds.), 1; E. Scholes (GOyds.), 2. A dance was held in tho Aokautere Hall in the evening to wind np the day's proceedings. A new Orange Lodge was opened at Palmerston on Wednesday evening in the Orange Hall, Bro. Petherick, R.W.G. Secretary, presiding. Ho was assisted ill tho installation ceremony by Bro. .1. Astin, 1.1'.G.M., and there was a large attendance' of members of No. 18 Palmerston, and' No. 53, Feilding. Tho investiture of-officers was carried, out, and tho new lodge (No. 65) duly constituted, the following being the officers:—W.M., Bro. H. Brougham; D.M., Bro. J. Cox; chaplain, Bro. C. J. Purton; secretary, Bro. H. Le Grange; treasurer, Bro. L. D. Benjamin; foreman committee, Bro. R. M'Murray. Greetings were received from the R.W.G.M., Bro. -Meredith, tho G.L. Executive, .the. Wellington District Lodge, and-several-- other-lodges. The opening of tho new lodge i:as celebrated by a banquet, when the usual loyal toasts wero honoured. In replying to the toast of the Grand Lodge,' tho G. Secretary referred to the progress made during tne past year, five new lodges being opened, as well as seven new ladies' lodges, whilst thre<) lodges had been reopened. A record gathering was anticipated at the- Grand Lodge session at Easter at Christchurch. The annual meeting of the No. 7 District was held at Palmcrston yesterday afternoon, Bro. W. Hunter, District G.M., being in the chair. A considerable amount of routine business was transacted, and* the following officers were elected:—Dis. G.M., Bro. G. W. Archer; D.M., Bro. li. A. Wunsch; chaplain, Bro. Rev. F' M'Donald; secretary, Bro. .T. Cooper; treasurer, Bro. H. Jackson; foreman of committee, Bro. W. Hunter; deacons, Bros. Mitchell and Hancock; guard, Bro. S. Law; committee, Messrs. Ailen, G. Short, S, Law,, and Roy. F. M'Donald. The newly-elected officers were installed by Bro. Astin, I.P.G.M. Bros. Short and Wunsch were appointed to represent tho district, lodge at the. Grand Lodge session. Reports from Hawera, 'Taihape, and Wangantii Lodges showed that steady progress was being made in these districts.
