GARRISON" OFFICERS' CLUB.
A LIVE INSTITUTION. "The syllabus for the session," states the annual report of the Wellington Garrison Officer.-' Club, to be presented to members at the annual meeting at. the Garrison Mali on .Monday evening nest, "whs of a very high standard and keen interest was taken by members throughout, the attendance during the session showing an average of ii officers." The report goes on to slate that on account of officers being in mourning for his late Majesty, the annual ball was not held., a mess dinner being substituted His Excellency the Governor and staff attended, together with fiO members and guests, the dinner being a pronounced success. I'om - "socials" were held during the session, the average attendance being 41. Items were supplied by officers of the club, the Wellington Pipe Band, and members of the Savage Club, and very enjoyable evenings were spent. The committee desires to record its thanks to the officers of the club and to those visitors who contributed to making these ".socials" a success.
jjuring the session, in addition to the lcctures provided for in the ordinary syllabus, Major Cresswell, of Rangiora, Captain Hamilton, A.D.C., and Captain E. M'Nab favoured the club with interesting lectures. The committeo desires to record its thanks to the above-named officers and also to those members who delivered lectures during the session. Major General Godley, C.8.. and his staff arrived in New Zealand during December. and were introduced to the officers of the garrison at a special meeting at which over 70 officers were present. Lieut.-Colonel J. 31. Mason and Major .T. G. Hughes were also welcomed on their return from England during the year. During the year 17 new members were elected, the total membership now being ■lit. The following members left the district or resigned:—Captains, M'Diarmid, Dalrymple;' Lieutenants Eastgate, .Bollard, Fellows, Sloman, Houston. Lofjan, Price, Merrilees, .Slipper; and ChaplainCaptain Davies. The death of Captain Rolleston, who served with the New Zealand troops ill South Africa, is referred to with regret. Durintr the session Lient.Colonel Bauchop, C.N.G.'. received instructions to proceed to England for a course at Camberlev Staff College, and was tendered a send-ofT by the members of the club. The business of the annual meetins* will include consideration of the renort and Imlanee-sheet - , the election of honorary officc-brearers and asccutive committee.
