COMPLIMENTARY BENEFIT.
4 About forty peoplo attended at the Mayor's Room in the Town Hall last evening to discuss a farewell concert to Mr. E. Parkes, who hopes to proceed to Englaud shortly to further his vocal studies. Mr. E. J. Hill was elected chairman. Apologies for absence were received from a number of well-wishers, these including the Mayor nntl Mr. j. P. Luke, M.P. The chairman referred to tho excellenco of Mr. Parkes's voice, and the general impression that lie should go to the old country to have it properly trained. . He also recalled Mr. Parkes's kindness in taking part in concerts whenever called upon. It was proposed and carricd that a concert bo hold in the Town Hall. Mr. J. Dykes was appointed secretary, and Mr. W. Fraser treasurer. A working committee was formed of twenty leading ladies and gentlemen. The date of tho concert has yet to be fixed.
