RUMOURED DISCONTENT. (By Telegraph—Spccial Correspondent,! Auckland, March 20. A persistent rumour is current in wellinformed circles to the effect that the Auckland Police Force, or a very considerable section of it, is in a ferment of discontent, it is not easy to ascertain just what the grounds are which have caused the unrest, but there would anpsar to bo several. Some of the trouble has In do with promotions, which everybody knows must enme to many members of the force in Ihe near future. It is also stated by some of them that the regime of late has been unnecessarily strict, ami I hat (he men have not been treated with due consideration in th» matter of annual leave. Tt is said also that it was concerning this alleged or real discontent that the Commissioner came to, Auckland a short whiie ago, Out on this as on all other, matters referred to, it is impossible to get definite information.
