WHICH DAY SHALL IT BE? Annually there is a difference of opinion as to the day of tho week on which tho weekly half-holiday should bo observed. At present in Wellington some of the big drapery warehouses in one section of the town close on Saturday, but in another part of tho town tho shons closo on Wednesday, while tho small shopkeepers are almost unanimous in supporting Wednesday as the day of hnlf-lioliday. Tho Trades and Labour Council favours a universal Saturday half-holiday, and having secured some 7000 signatures to a petition for tho Saturday half-holiday is to present its case (with the petition) to the council at its meeting on" Thursday evening.
