SUPPLY AND DEMAND.
HAPPY LABOUR CONDITIONS. A few days ago a telegram; announced that men were wanted for certain trades in Auckland. Mr. ]!. A. Wright, jM.P., communicated with the authorities there, with Hie intention of .discovering what class of men it was that wore required, lie learned that almost all the skilled trades had vacancies, though there was no demand for clerks. This was made puljlic in Wellington at the time, but Mr. Wright received-only one communication about going to AucKland. From this it may l>o presumed that there are very few skilled tradesmen seeking employment in Wellington. As a matter of fact, inquiries at the local Labour .Bureau elicit that' almost any class of tradesman, if he is any good, can be immediately provided with work here or in adjacent towns. One reason for ithis slate ot' affairs may he that considerable numbers of men are leaving and have left for Sydney and Melbourne, when there is a big demand for skilled mechanical labour.
