Mackenzie, Commissioner of * Crown Lands, AVellington district, left today for Wellington after having taken a week's tour of the newly-owned districts lying inland of Wanganui. He made a thorough inspection of the various blocks on both sides of the river, having traversed Parapara Road and visited Raetihi, Pipiriki, Ahuahu, Te. Tuhi, Rangnatau." . Kai Iwi, and Waitotara. lie was greatly impressed with the class of country ill all these districts. Ciood progress in the work of .-.cttlement was found 011 all sides, and the commissioner expressed himself ;s greatly taken with the fine class of settlers, who all appear to be doing well. - The trip made by several members cf the Chamber of Commerce, via Parapara Road to Raetihi, was very successful. Leaving Wanganui on Friday morning, Raotihi was readied next day, and they returned to Wanganui 011 Sunday night. They were hcsnitably entertained by members of the Raetihi Progressive Association, and many matters of mutual interest to the two districts were discussed, special mention being made of the near possibility of the whole of the Waimarino's import trede being entirely through Wanganui, on accouut of the steady development of the harbcur at the latter place. In reply to a question as to whether Waimarino County should como into the Wanganui Harbour area and. bear its share of (ho harbour rale, if such were struck, the Wanganui delegates were informed that it, was not a matter of sentiment with Raetihi people, but Ji s. d., and if Wanganui exerted itself it would find it easy not only to maintain but greatly enlarge the present trade connection.
