GREAT DAMAGE IN QUEENSLAND. TOWNSHIP IN RUINS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Oopyriuht Brisbane, March 18. During the cyclone at Cairns a cottage was lifted off the blocks and safely deposited a few yards away. A great number of houses were badly damaged. Cargo sheds on the wharf collapscd. The full force of tho storm was felt at. Nelson and Mulgrave. Houses collapsed or were unroofed, and other extensive damage done. Twelve inches of rain fell in thirty-six hours. FORT DOUGLAS IN RUINS.. (Rec. March 20, 0.30 a.m.) Brisbane, March 19. A telegram from Port Douglas, forty miles north of Cairns, states that a terrific cyclonc occurred on Thursday. Practically every building in the town was levelled. There were two fatalities, and a hundred persons are homeless. It is asked that relief may be sent to the township. Mossman is also devastated, but the telegraphic service is disorganised and the details are meagre.
