PROTEST DISMISSED.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Westport, Starch 17. Tho stewards of tho W 7 estport Jockey Club dismissed tho protest against Featherstone in tho Railway Plate race. THE CHIEF REASON OF IT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Tlmai'U, March 17. At tho South Canterbury Jockey Club's committee meeting this evening, a loss of £190 over tho recent meeting was reported. Tho chairman, Dr. Thomas, attributed tho deficit partly to tho first day being Ash' Wednesday, a fact that was not noticed when the dates were selected; partly to the horses being knocked out by the hard going at Dunedin during tho previous week; but chiefly to tho club being driven from its dates by tho Christchurch and Ashburton Clubs being given them. But for the financial result the meeting was au excellent one. MASTERTON R.C. ACCEPTANCES. (By Telegraph.-Press Association.) Masterton, March 17.
