WESTPORT JOCKEY CLUB. AUTUMN RACES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Westport, March 17. The Westport Jockey Club's Autumn meeting opened to-day. The rain which fell in tho morning cooled the air and improved the track, which had been hardened by tho previous protracted spell of dry weather. Results:— FLYING HANDICAP. Five furlongs.—Redwing, Bst. 21b., and Foathorston, Gst. 71b., dead heat, 1; Merchantman, !)st., 3. Also started: Montague, Ost. lib.; Bahny Breeze, j Bst. llib.; Jennie Colleen, 7st. 41b. This was a fine race, all 'tho placed horses entering tho straight on almost level terms. Merchantman was a baro half-length away from the dead-heaters. Time, lmin. 4 4-osec. STEWARDS' HANDICAP. Six furlongs.—Mania, list., 1; Sultan, Ost. 71b., 2; Subdue, Ost. 71b., 3. Nine others started. Won by two lengths. Time, lmin. 21 l-ssec. ORAWAITI HANDICAP TROT. One mile and a half.—Ambertips, 27sec., 1; Zeppa, 21sec., 2; Coney, scr., 3. Seventeen others started. A protest was entered by the owner of Zeppa against Ambertips on tho ground of interference. It was dismissed. WESTPORT CUP. Nine furlongs.— Investment, 7st. 71b., 1; The Orient, Gst. 71b., 2"; Redwing, 7st. 111b., 3. These were tho only starters. Won by half a length, with a long neck between second and third. Timo, 2inin. ADDISON'S HACK HANDICAP. Savon furlongs.—Parallel, 9st. 71b., 1; Blue Sky, lOst. 31b., 2; Lady Wreath, 9st., 3. Four others started. Timo, linin. 34 3-ssec. BIRCHFIELD HANDICAP TROT. Two miles.—Stiver, Bsec., 1; Judge Albert, 30sec., 2; Major Lincoln, 13sec., 3. All of the eighteen acceptors, savo Black Cat, started. Won by two lengths. Timo, smin. 16sec. RAILWAY PLATE HANDICAP. Six furlongs.—Featherston, 6st. 121b., 1; iuorchantman, 9st., 2; Shannon Lass, ■ Ost. 41b., 3. Also started: Montague, 9st. lib.; Supplement, 6st. 71b. Won by a length. Time, lmin. 17 3-ssec. A protest has been entered against Featherston for crossing. Tho totalisator investments were £2205, as compared with £1799 for tho first day last year.
