HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) Tho Hibernian Societies at Hutt' and Fetoue celebrated St. Patrick's Day by holding "socials" at tho Petono Drill Hall and at St. James's Hall, Hutt. Both wero well attended, and, although tho evening was somewhat oppressive, tho proceedings wore very enjoyable. On the Petono Recreation Ground last evening the semi-final for tho St. David's Cup was run. Resultsloo yards, H. Jowctt, lOvds., 1; li, l,nwry "),vds., 2; A. Hold, scr., 220 Yards': H. .lowf'tt. 20yds., 1 ; 11. Lowry, ]oyds., 2; A. Bold, scr., 3. Tho final of the <1-10 yards will probably bo run nest Wednesday night.
At the Lower Hutt Police Court yesterday morning one first offender for ■drunkenness was convicted and discharged. Mr. G. A. Chapman, J.P., occupied the Bench. At the Petone Court yesterday Messrs. J. .W. 11'Ewan aud If. J. Snutlipate! issued n prohibition order against John Taucred, on his own application.
