In Wednesday's Dominion there appeared a footnote to a cable message describing a new type of warship on which tho German newspaper "Vorwacrts" alleges that Great Britain and Germany arc working. Mr. V. Whitty, of Lower llutf, writes as follows apropos of the matter:—"Your notice in yesterday's Dominion of tho proposed 15-iuch gun contains an error which it may be as well to correct. This is that the projectile of the 1G.7 gun will be 5',1-lOib. It should be approximately not moro than 211001b. The old Kit-inch b.1., weighing 1101 tons, threw a shell of ISOOIb., and was the heaviest piece of ordnance ever used in our service. It is curious to note that in tho demand for largo calibres -we do not even approach old ordnance, as at Woolwich (here is on view a brass gun of 2r> inches and a mortar of 36 inches both, of course, smooth bore and for spherical shell." ,Tho weight of projectile referred to Was, of course, merely given as part of the "Yorwacrts" rumour. At a meeting yesterday tho Lighting Oonunitlco of the Provincial Industrial Association decided to accept the tender of tho Gas Company for lighting the U Building at the forthcoming Coronation Exhibition.
