A FATAL FIGHT.
—; ♦ BOXER DIES IN SYDNEY. POLICE EFFECT. ARRESTS, By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyriclit (Rec. March 17, 10.10 p.m.) Sydney, March 17. A heavy-weight boxing contest, held at Waterloo last night, between Jack Whittaker and Vic Gleeson, has had a tragic sequel. During the' fight Whittaker floored Gleeson, who was rendered unconscious and died to-day. Gleeson's true name is Victor Jacobson'. Whittaker's second states that it was definitely' arranged before the light that Whittaker should lose. He had wagered to that effect, and (he manner of the fight indicated it' was true, the deceased falling for the slightest blows in order to waste time, Neither man gavo. a dtcent hit. In the thirteenth round Gleeson fell and fractured his skull on the floor. He did not regain consciousness. Whittaker had undertaken to stop his opponent in fifteen rounds or lose. Whittaker and tho officials have been arrested.
