KARORI'S NEW BIT OF TRAMWAY
LOSS ON THE SECTION. Referring to the working of the new tramway section on the borough lino, recently opened for traffic, tho Mnyor of Karori, at the council meeting last evening, stated thai for tho first eight clays ot tho miming of the new section tho sale of penny tickets had totalled Sffli, or .€ls lGs. od. Setting against this revenue car mileage—637 miles ut Is. and 6 miles at 25.- I totalling £27 95., and sundry other charges, tho working of the new section showed a loss of £13 18s. 7d. Of course, said tho Mayor, it was hardly fair to assess tho merits of tho new section on sucii a broken period as the first eight days had been—wet days' and slips. On the first day they had carried 819 passengers.
A matter for congratulation, said Councillor Hildroth, was tho fortunate circumstance that the recent scour on the lino had cost tho council £150 only. It might have bcon a good deal worse, ho said. Other councillors concurred.
