The patients of the Hospital and San, atorium were-cntortaincd by a numboi ot Methodist friends at a "social" on I'nday evening last, wlion quite V lengthy programme of a varied naturo was given. Supper was also provided ' for the visitors. , (. .The fertility of local soil is beyond all doubt, but the following tyem is ' rather astonishing. Mr. Crabb secured a sixpenny packet of onion seed, planted ■; it and, in return, secured over 3cwt. of ' fine brown Spanish onions. The Rev. E. D. Evans, one of tho missioucrs who drew packed congregations here and elsewhere, is at present the guest of the Rev. J. A: M'Nicklo ' and, on Sunday morning,- delivered au address to a large congregation at the Jlaori Church. After resting a while ' Mr. Evans will leave to take charge of at. Peter's, Caversham. Playing on tho local 'bowling ' green ' on Saturday evening. Brown regained top position on the ladder by beating '• 0 Rourko, while, for the pairs tournament, Satherley and Hartill won oasily from Smith and Simcox. Stevens and ' Gooding defeated Farmer and Bright. ■ There are at present 28 patients ia tho Otaki Sanatorium, two having ai> rived during the past few days.
