ANN'UAL CONVENTION. WELCOME TO DELEGATES'. ' The delegates to the Wellington Provincial Convention of the Christian Endeavour Society were welcomed last evening at the Vivian Street Church schoolroom. The chair at the gathering was filled by the Rev. llutsou, with whom on the stage were .Messrs,

Alter a musical contribution, the secretary read the annual report. lu this report (the 17th) it was stated that the Seamen's Committee had done good work, and had been a blessing to many a sailor. The desirability ol members who were visiting country districts looking up branch societies wat mentioned. In the junior division nearly all the societies were on the up grade. As in tjie case of the Lookduii Committee, the junior superintendent had had to confine his attention to tho town districts, owing to the lack of means of visiting the country. During the year three societies had been alldiatcd to the union, and one had been accepted sinco the close of the year. There we'ro now 14 senior and 20 junior societies. The approximate membership was 514 senior, 83 intermediate, and 610 junior members. The sum of £70 6s. lid. had been raised by these members for foreign missions; £29 13s. 9d. for home missions; and £41 7s. for general work. Reference was.made in touching terms to tho deaths of Mr. C, A. Wilson, of Newtown, and Mrs. F, Kcith-Ewen.
Tho following officers had been elected for the ensuing year: — Mr. S. IT, Mudgc; vice-presidents, Mr, L. J. Clarke and Rev. J. R. Clarke) secretary, Miss Birkensbaw; recording secretary, Miss Fuller; treasurer, Mr. Raine; press reporter, Mr. Hcarne. The report was adopted, and enthusiastic reference was made to thegood work of tho secretary, Mr. Griffin, who had resigned, owing to his coining departure from tho district. Tho general account of the balancesheet showed receipts amounting to £18 7s. 9d., of which £5 Ws. was a balance from the previous year. A balance of lis. 6d. existed on tho year's operations.
The delegates were then officially wel< coined.
Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P., referred U tho sympathy and assistance the sociotj received from the ministers of religion, who nowadays were all on its side in tho matter of strong drink. Ho congratulated tlio young delegates on* their work on behalf of such a glorious causeas was theirs, and ho felt sure that all the citizens of Wellington would echo his words of welcome to them.
Tho Rev. J. It. Clarke also made a happy little speech of welcome. Mr. Thompson, of the Primitive Methodist branch, Webb Street, proposed, a vote of thanks to the speakers, which was carried.
Musical items wero given by Miss-cs Day, Evon, Clarke, M'Donald, Mr. Griffiths, and members of other societies, and at tho close of tho meeting supper was handed round. ( To-night, at tho Town Hall, tho junior, members of tho society, will build lighthouses, representing the lighthouses of New Zealand. This is a pretty and interesting cc.romolls7.and is usually well attended. Admission will bo bv"silver coin. To-morrow evening, at the Vivian Street Church, Mr. S, B. Mudgo, of -Melbourne, will- take as his subject "Drink," and will answer-a few of Professor Salmond's statements. Papers also-will bo given by the Rev. J. J. North and Mr. S. Martin.
