(By Tclejraph.—Special Correspondent.! Ro-Cftcn, March 1-1. Tho drought hero continues, and shows no sign of abatement. The position is growing very serious, and the mines will soon bo'forced to close down crushing, while other mining operations will bo seriously retarded, if not forced to close down. There isawatorfamine.it Globe Hill, where tho residents carrywater in buckets from a small creek. In Rcofton, in spito of tho new water supply, the town water is turned off most of tho day. Feed in the district is very scarce, and milk in consequence is retailed at 6d. per quart.
Tho Nelson Land Board, sitting here, allotted over 1501 acres for pastoral purposes. There is a keen demand for land, as the dairying district has proved so successful, a largo area being cleared for tho extension of dairying operations.
