A YEAR'S STATISTICS. Vital statistics for 1910 show that tho total number of births registered as. occurring in tho four chief centres and suburbs was 7221, as against 7163 for tho previous year.

Tho birth-rates Tier 1000 of population for last year were Auckland, 27.75; Wellington, 24.13; Christchurch, .27.10; Dunedin, 27.22. Including tho suburban boroughs the rates were Auckland, 20.01; Wellington, 21.19; Christchurch, 25.83; Dunedin, 25.29. By the inclusion of the suburbs th* rate is lowered at Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin, but raised at Wellington. Excluding tho suburbs,'it will bo observed that Auckland has the highest rate, Dunedin next highest, Christchurch ■ and Wellington following. Tho birth-rate for the Dominion last year was 2G.21 per thousand. Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin aro thus over the average, and Wellington below it.

The birth-rates for the four central boroughs last year show a fall when compared with 1"09. In Auckland the rato> fell, from 29.73 t0'27.75;' in Wellington from 2G.G2 to '2-1.13; in Christchurch from 28.55 to 27.10; in Diinedin from 28.31 to 27.72.

The total number of deaths registered for the four centres in 1910 was 2791— viz., 228-1 in the cities, and 507 in tho suburbs.

By including the suburbs,, the deathrate for last year is lowered at all of the four centres. The following are the death-rates per 1000 of mean population (oxcluding - the suburbs) Auckland, 11.88;- Wellington, 9.31; Christchurch, 10.51; Duuedin, 10.99. ' Including tha suburbs, the rates aro :-rAuckland, 9.73; Wellington, 8.95; Christchurch, 10.11; Dunedin, 10.21.

The percentage of deaths of children under sto tho total number,of deaths is: Auckland, 27.40; in Wellington, 27.02; in Christchurch, 20.G6; in Dunedin, 22.G1. For tho month of January last tho death-rate per 1000 of the population was as follows (without suburbs):—Auckland, 1.32; Wellington, 0.72; Christchurch, 0.14; Dunedin. 0.98. Including the suburbs, tho rate at Christchurch is the highest, and at Wellington the lowest.

The totai births in the four cities. and their suburban bo'ro'ughsTamounted to 652, against 591 in December—an increase of 58. The deaths in January were 260—an increase of G6 on the'jjiumber in December. . .
