A transferee, in his declaration, stated that his capital was £18,000. Members of the board were quite unprepared for eo wealthy an applicant, and suggested that there must bo somo mistake., and that the amount should he £1800. Tho applicant was called, however, and confirmed tho statement. Then arose a curious position, it being discovered that the transferee posscsE-ed moro capital than tho law allowed such applicants to have. It' was suggest 1 that tho transferee, wbote misfortune was to own £18,000, should consult a. solicitor with a view to making a fresh declaration. Tho land which ho proposed to acquire would _ bo gfeatly benefited by tho expenditure of tho money which this transferee proposed to lay out, and ho appeared to bo tho very kind of settler who does much good on the land.
