HAWAII AND U.S. TROOPS.
AN AMBASSADOR HERE. (Br Telegraph.-Press association.) Auckland, March 10. Mr. G. J. Waller, representative of a meat company of Hawaii, is at present in Auckland. Mr. Waller's visit is to look into matters in connection with tho meat trade and prices here as compared with California. For some years past it has not been necessary to import meat into Hawaii, but owing to the increase of population and the largo number of the United States .Army now stationed there, tho islands will have to import a quantity of beef, mutton, and butter. In fact, at the present time tho United States Army there is being supplied with frozen meat fj-om California, and most of the butter used at tho islands is brought from California.
A small quantity has been brought in by the Union Steam Ship Company's boats from Australia, but this supply has not been regular, for the reason that monthly space cannot bo obtained on.tho steamers. The visit is in tho nature of. a preliminary run over the country to get an idea of what can be done down here, and how prices compare with California.
