■THE STATE OF THE MARKET. Thoro has been a..very busy week on tho.. market. Extraordinarily big consignments of tomatoes havo come in. Outlets; for them l aro being found in •Auckland and Dunedin. Prices aro Is. 6d. to 2s. a half ease.

.The Melbourne steamer yesterday landed a fairly largo consignment of pears, mostly in good condition. Tho best sold from 10s. to 14s.

From tho samo vessel the first consignment of South Australian grapes wero landed. They realised 16s. to 18s. per box of about 241b. They appear to lie better packed than last year's imported grapes, which wero packed in cork dust so fmo that it was almost impossible ,to , removo it without much trouble. The packing this year is coarser and falls off when tho bunches are shaken.

Local pears aro very plentiful from Christchu'rch. Best dessert sort 3 seii from Is. to lis. Apples from Motneka, and Nelson aro all in good demand. Best desserts aro quoted at from iis. fid. to Bs;,..and cookers at from 4s. to ss. / 'Fairly largo supplies of New Zealand passion fruit are coming from Auckland. They bring 3s. to ss.

'..Late peaches from Motueka are still criming in freely. They are mostly small and hard. Thev sell at Is. Od/to 2s. a half case; large red, 3s. to <is. Grapes from Lower Hutt and Nelson and Motueka sold from 9d. to lid. p.er lb. They were quito equal in appearance and in flavour to those from South Australia. Quinces went for 3s a case.

The next _ shipment of oranges from Karotnnga is duo in Wellington on Tuesday, via Auckland. About 2000 cases are expected.

Tho stonmnr from Sydney landed only a very small consignment of fruit. brourcht Bs. to 10s. New South Walts crranes Ds. to 12s. per half pin r!i.si>, and Messina lemons. 15s. Od. 'to Ifis. a half caso.
