MUTTON AND LAMB EXPORTS.
ENGLAND'S INCREASED SUPPLIES.(By Telesraph.-Special Correspondent.) ChrisjtoSuiroh, March 10. The ."Press" has been supplied with figures showing tho increase in tho shipments of frozen mutton and lamb during the fivo months from October to February inclusive, as compared with the samo period of last year. Tho increase of over half a million carcasses of lamb, mostly from Australia, will explain why tho prices for fat lambs have lately been declining. Mutton has increased by a similar quantity, Argentina accounting for tho major portion of the increase. In the five months of last season there wore ishipped from New. Zealand 553,000 carcasses of mutton, and,853,000 carcasses of lamb; from Australia,' 1,160,000 carcasses of mutton and 1,065,000 carcasses of lamb; and from Argentina, 810,000 carcasses of-mutton and 124,000 carcasses of lamb; making a-total of 2,523,000 carcasses of mutton and.2,052,000 carcasses of lamb: In tho i corresponding five months of this season thero wero shipped from New Zealand 605,000 carcasses of, mutton and\ 932,800 carcasses of laipb; from Australia 1j265,000 carcasses of mutton and 1,495,000 carcasses of lamb; and from Argentina 1,300,000 carcasses of mutton and 275,500 car-casses-of lamb; making a total of 3,170,000" carcasscs of mutton and 2,703,000 carcasses. of lamb,, an increase of 647,000 carcasses'' of mutt&i and 651,300 carcasses of lamb.
Of the increase, in. mutton Argentina iriakes itp 490,000 carcasses, and in lanib Australia has contributed 430,000 moro carcasses. Now Zealand has not made any larger increases'in either mutton or lamb. In addition to her heavier export of mutton, Argentina has rather more than doubled her output of lamb. Australia shipped moro than half her export of lamb during the month of November, and shipments are now imall, while her shipments of mutton have been very even during the season. One half of Now Zealand's export of Jamb (or 451,000 carcasses), and onethird of her mutton,export (or 243,000 carcasses) was, sent away last month. The total shipments--" from tho three countries "for February, 1910, wore: mutton, 578,000 carcasses, and lamb, 505,000 carcasses. This year 543,000 carcasses of mutton and 556,000 carcasses pf lamb were sent in the samo month. "While there is not much difference in the February shipments, tho January shipments this year were much heavier than last year, being 800,000 carcasses of mutton against 561,000, and 537,000 carcasses of lamb against 386 - 000,' or a total increase of 438,000 carcasses over January, 1910. .
