Death of Lady Broome. Ia one of yesterday's cables the death of Lady Broome, widow of a former Governor of Western Australia, was announced. Hers was an -interesting life, containing somewhat varied experiences. Sho afterwards wrote a book about it. entitled "Station Life in Now Zealand," which was very well received by the publio. Lady Broomo was born in Jamaica, her father . being the Hon. W. G. Stewart, Colonial Secretary to' the colony. In ISS- - married Colonel Sir G. I!. Baker, of the Royal Engineers, who died eight years later. It was Lady Baker she wrote her book on "Station Life in New Zealand." In iSBi the deceased lady married Sir' Frederick Broome, who was Governor of Ttinidad. From June, ISS3, to December, IS-S9'. Sir Frederick Broome was Governor of Western Australia. Ho died in 1596. ■ .- Miss Margaret Scott, who has recovered from a serious illness, left for Masterton yesterday morning to bo the guest ot Mrs. Walter Mace at Branerton. Miss Kirlc (Pe'one) returned on Tuesday from a visit to Palraerston, Wanganu'i, and Napier. Mrs. and Miss Bell were passengers by the Maori from the south yesterday. Canon Lucas, with Mrs. and Miss Lucas, were passengers by the Marama yesterday from Sydney. /Tliey have been spending some months in England. Miss Rachael Mandel (Hokitika) 'is in town, and is staying at the Royal Oak. ' ■ Mrs. G'rimmand has returned from a long visit to Australia, and is staying at the Royal Oak. She returns to the West Coast very shortly. Mrs. Skeet and Miss Dalziel are visiting relatives in New Plymouth. Mrs. A. Hodge returned to Masterton on Tuesday from ft visit to Dunedin, At St. Matthew's Church, Masterton, Mr. Charles J. Braggins was married to Miss Ellen Lee yesterday. Both, are well known in Masterton.
