VATICAN AND GERMANY.
THE DECREE AGAINST MODERNISM, Br Telegraph—Press Assiirtnf inn-ropjTieht. (Rec. March' 8, 11 p.m.) Berlin, March 8. ~ The Imperial Chancellor, Herr von Bethmann Hollweg, in speaking in the Prussian Diet, gave a quiet but emphatic warning to the Vatican in connection with its recent decreo requiring all holders of offices in tho Roman Catholic Church to take an anti-Modernist oath. The Government has declined to dissolve the Roman Catholic faculties in the universities, but is decidedly of tho opinion that Roman Catholic clergy and teachers who teach German and history in the State schools should not do so after they have subscribed to the anti-Modernist oath.
