An extraordinary mishap occurred at Barry Docks, near Cardiff. The huge sliding caisson in the passage between Nos. 1 and 2 docks suddenly collapsed and sank to the bottom of the lock. In consequence of tlio accident a dozen vessels were imprisoned in No. 2 dock. The caisson was constructed fifteen years ago, and an enormous and intricate mass of machinery is involved in the mishap, the caisson bavins served as lock gates between the two docks mentioned. At tho time of tlio occurrence, the caisson, which weighs about 1000 tons, was in process of removal to a neighbuoring dry dock, ami had been taken out of it's chamber in the side of the lock wall. Tlio structure had hardly been started on its journey, when it heeled over, and sank. There is only one other euch caisson in Great Britain.
