The monthly sitting of the lower Hutt S.M. Court was held yesterday before Dr. M'Arthur, S.M. For riding bicycles after sundown without lights, G. M'llvride was lined ss. and costs 75.; 11. lee, ss. and costs 75.; Gordon Bender, 10s. and costs 75.; James Davidson, ss. and costs 75.; Oacroft Wilson, costs 75.; H. J. Palmer, ss. and costs 7s. Francis Winnie, for cycling on the footpath, was ordered to pay 7s. ,anil S. Smith, on a similar charge, was ordered to pay 7s. costs. On the civil side, August Henry Schlichting, for whom Mr. Jackson appeared, sued James Wilson Davidson for .£lO alleged commission on a sale of property of jCi-!50. After evidence Uie Bench gavo judgment for defendant, with costs amounting tc £i. Judgment was givou for plaintiff in the following cases:—J. Wooldrege v. ,T. Brown, <£3 4s„ and costs 55.; same v. J. Stevenson, £2 Bs., costs 55.; H. V. Wcstbnry v. J. Edlin, -fit Is.; samo v. Gcorgo Pilcher. XI 2s. fd. In the civil action. Langton and Bowers v. Mrs. Wcbley, claim .CIG 13s. 7d.. judgment was given for plaintiff for £H Ss. Id., with costs £2. Tho only business before the Hutt Licensing Committeo at their meeting yesterday was the granting of transfers of the licenses of the Grand National Hotel, Petone, from Ottn Desncux to Walter ,T. .Torgensen ,awl of the Provincial Hotel, ljpper Hutt. from Florence May Paulsen to Ifichard Quimi. Tho annual meeting of the Petone Orchestral Society was held at Martin's Booms last night. Mr. Watncy Sibwn presided, and there was a fair attendance. The report and balance-sheet, which showed a decided improvement on previous years, was adopted. Tho officers elected for the ensuing year were as under:— President, Mr. J. W. M'Ewan; vice-presi-dents, Mr. B. C. Wnrncs, Rev. A. ,T. Senmer, Mrs. R. C. Kirk, Mrs. Scales, and Mr. Coles; conductor. Mr. Watne'y Sibun; secre'ary, Mr. C. C. Green; trcasurer, Mr. N. Anlin; committee, Mr. Medhurst, Mies Kibblewhite. and other officers ex-nfficio; librarian, Mr. Clough. Further items of Hutt and Petone news will be found on page 8.
