Gibson Carmichael, the retiring State Governor, the claims of distinguished Australians to hold the office of Stato Governor. Sir T. Gibson Carmichael, in reply, said he fully sympathised with tho representations rnade. Nothing in Australia was too good for Australians. There was a possibility of the spheres of the State and the Federal Governments being remodelled, and probably one of the problems of considerable urgency which would rise would bo the abolition of the positions of tho State Governors. It would probably receive tho support of himself and his party in Great Britain.

Sir Thomas Gibson Carniichael is a member of the British Liberal party, and succeeded Mr. Gladstono as M.P. for Midlothian.
