SHANNON FLOWER SHOW.

The Rev. James Gibb, D.D., of Wellington, opened tho annual Horticultural Society's show on Friday afternoon. There were nearly 400 entries, and tho show was in every way successful, being well attended up to its close on Saturday night. The following were the points prizes:—Pot plants, Mrs. Kilsby; cut blooms, Mrs. Galland; garden produco, Mrs. Pedersen; fruit prize, Mr. G. N. Stephenson; farm produce, Mr. P. Oag; decorative (ladies), Mrs. Newth; decorative (children), Miss Robinson; fancy work, Mrs. Gibson; cookery, Mrs. Pedersen; homo industries, Mrs. Pcarce and Mrs. Mentood (equal); school gardens, Moutoaj four .firsts; Shannon, one. first; schoolwork (writing and drawing), Moutoa took most of tho prizes; plastecene and brush work, Shannon took all the prizes; Mr.Wighton's special prize for cut blooms was won by Mrs. Galland, who also secured the special prize for most points in the show. Nail-driving, hat-trimming, weight-judging, .and other competitions were well patronised, and formed profitable sources of revenue. On both nights "Professor Put-'om off" (Mr. G. H. Gibb) displayed his hypnotic abilities. Tho treasurer- received about 4120 in donations, and the entry fees amounted to is 10s. A Dutch auction, conducted by Mr. Bovis, brought the exhibition to a conclusion on Saturday night. The following were the judges:—Mrs. Greig, fancy and needlework; Mrs. Boycs, decorative classes; Mr. Shailes, fruit and produce; Mr. J. Roach, cooking. The net proceeds amounted to about .£42.
