MOUNT PEEL ESTATE.
(By Telcsraph-Fress Association.) Chrisichurch, March 4. The Government have acquired between two and three thousand acre; of freehold, and about 50,000 acres of the Mount Peel Estate, in South Canterbury, from tho trustees of the late Hon. J. B. A. Acland. Most of the. country acquired is very safe. If is free from snow, and is reported to be eminently suited for subdivision into small grazing runs. Mount I'cel is the first hill country run acquired in Canterbury, and has been in the possession or the Acland family since 1555. It is anticipated that the portion acquired by the Government will be open for selection in February, Mil!. It was in the vicinity of Mount Peel Station that Samuel Butler is understood to have written his work. "Erewhou," and Butler's Creel;, named after the author, runs through a portion of the area acquired by th« GoTermn.'iit,
