ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

FATALITY ON THE WHARF. A LABOURER KILLED. Whilst engaged working cargo alongside the steamer Kaipara at the Glasgow Wharf about 5 o'clock on Saturday evening,' n, wharf labourer named Wm. Sherwood, a married man, 37 years of ag«, received serious injuries to his side, and the case terminated fatally yesterday evening. Nobody who actually saw tho accident could be traced by tho police up to vestcrdav evening, but it appears that Sherwood was employed shifting a truck laden with frozen meat, which was to bo transferred to tho Kaipara. As each truck was emptied it was replaced by a full one. It is believed that Sherwood was jammed between one of the trucks and a crane. Deceased, who resided at 208 Willis Street, was attended by Dr. Honi'w who found that several ribs were broken, and that there were also internal injuries. Tho sufferer was removed to the hospital, but died at 8.15 o'clock last night. An inquiry is to bo held to-day into the circumstances surrounding tho accident. ENTOMBED IN COAL-PIT. Deceased leaves a grown-up family.

SKIUOUS IiACINU MISHAP. Christchurcli, March 5. The well-known trainer and rider of trotting horses, Robert Allan, was thrown from a horse at tho Now Brighton Club's trotting meeting yesterday afternoon, 110 was removed to tho hospital whore ho was found to bo suffering from concussion of tho brain. Allan regained consciousness to-day, and is progressing favourably.
