CITY FIRES.
QUITE A. LITTLE SEMES.
There was quite a series of fires in ■Wellington yesterday," though nothing of serious moment happened.
At d.3 a.m. the brigade received a call to No. 32 Taranaki Street, an eight-roomed house occupied by Mrs. Mabel Shaw, and owned by Prouso Lumber, Ltd. The damage was restricted to an outbreak in a passage, tho contents o£ which suffered. The Northern Office holds a risk.of ,£IOO on the contents of the house. No cause tor the fire could bo deduced. At 7.10 o'clock last ovemng the brigade was called to an incipient fire in a nine-roomed dwelling in Pipitea Street, occupied by Mrs. Jas. W. M'EwOn, and owned by Mrs. Georgo lisher. Tho damage, -which ,onlv amounts to a few pounds, was caused by a match which was thrown down while still alight. \ big glaro illumined the southern sky between 8 and 0 o'clock last evening, the effect of some burning gorso on the hillside to the west of the tramway terminus at Island Bay. The brigade turned out once more, but, finding that there was no danger' to property, allowed the firo to burn itself out. On the return of the motor there was still another turn-out, this time to No. 11l Arlington Street, a five-roomed dwelling, occupied by Mr. A. L. Smith, and owned bv Mr. F. Sidcy. The kitchen was badly burned, the front room was slightly damaged, and a gcod deal of minor injury was done bv smoke and water. The inmates were'absent. Tho contents of tho house were insured in the Commercial Office for ,£l5O.
