ANNUAL SPORTS.
THE PORT NICHOLSON A.A. CLUB. THEIR SECOND VENTURE. Baffled by bad weather in an attempt to hold their annual sports carnival on February 25, the Port Nicholson Amateur Athletic Club had better fortune on Saturday last. Weather indications in the early part of the day were threatening, but the afternoon turned out: fine although a gusty wind made things sometimes unpleasant for spectators and competitors. About a thousand people, had assembled to view the events, by the time the programme was well under way. Entries in. most eases were numerous and there were comparatively few scratchings. A club relay race was eliminated from the programme and the role-vault was withdrawn as a competition, but L. M'Kay, in an exhibition vault, cleared the bar at ten feet. Nearly every event culminated in a well-contested finish. Among meritorious individual performances may be mentioned those of L. E. Baxter, in the long-distance running events, and G. Turner, who fought a gallant finish in the three-mile- walk. To judge by the capable way in which .f. F. Wilson carried the half-mile run ho could have reduced the New Zealand record had any one of the competitors, whom he easily and successively overhauled, been capable of putting him on his mettle. A scries of selections played by the Garrison Band sensibly enlivened the afternoon's proceedings. Following is a. list of results in the various events:—
