SENATOR LORIMER'S ELECTION

o . . . DECLAIMED' <• n' '»> 8j Telegraph—Press Associatlon-Oopyrteht. Washington, March 2. The United States Senate has passed a resolution to the cffect that Senator Lorimer was legally elected. Mr. Lorimer was involved in election bribery allegations, and was snubbed by Mr. Roosevelt during the recent electoral campaign.

Apropos of the above, it is interesting to note that in September last Mr. Roosevelt, speaking' at/the Hamilton Club, Chicago, boldly accused the Illinois. Legislature, which-elected Mr. Lorimer to.tha Senate, of "foul corruption and infamous treason." He declared ho had read the reports of the investigation into Mr. Lorimer's election, which had resulted in the indictment of four legislators; and also the confessions of four .other legislators. "I have read the confessions of these four men," Mr. Roosevelt said, "and what tho State Attorney developed, and I defy honest man not. to arrive at the conclusion that the Legislature whoso doings were exposed was guilty of tho foulest and basest corruption, and therefore of most infamous treason to American institutions." Mr. Roosevelt, in conclusion. said: "If the people are content to send- corruntionists to the State and national Legislature, the people will >;\t the government thev deserve—and a bad government it will be."
