Advice was received in, Auckland this, morning that Albert Alfred Cash, found guilty of murdering his wife at Helensville 011 Christinas Day, and condemned to -death, had had his death sentenco commuted io imprisonment for life. Cash lias been confined in Mount Eden prison, and a constant watch kept 011 him day and night. Though lie has conversed with his keepers occasionally, the prisoner has generally maintained n listless attitude, and when tho gaoler acquainted him with the' decision of Cabinet he received the news quito casually. Although _ Cash is by 110 means ill. a low physical condition, tho authorities, upan advice of tho gaol surgeon, have had him removed to'"tho prison hospital, where he can converse with his fellow-prisoneri. _
Tim southern portion of the San Francisco mail, which arrived at Auckland by the Occano yesterday, will reach. Wellington by 'this afternoon's Main Trunk express.
