Reception for Miss Castles. 'A most'enjoyable) reception, with Miss Amy Castles as the guest of honour, was held in the Grand Hotel last evening, and was attended by- a great many guests, among them being most of the musical people,, of Wellington. Miss Castles is not a New Zealandcr, but sho might well bo one, judging by tho interest which is taken in her career and the sincero wishes expressed for. her future.' success in tho World iuto which she is so shortly carrying "her flag! After all.Art is beyond all parochialism, and whenever 'or wherover there is the, gift for song, for music, or for art in any form, most of the bystanders cannot help but wish them all honours. Tho hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Roderick M'Kenzie, Mrs. D. Findlay, Mrs.- Frank.Dyer* Mrs. Robert Loughnan, Mrs. Knox Gilmer, and Mrs. A; E. Donne,' and as the guests.arrived they were received at tho entrance to the largo dining-room, in which tho function was held. A very delightful musical programme was given, those taking part in it being Mr. E. Hill, Miss Segfief, and Mr. Partes,-■ while a duet sung by Mr. E. Hill and Mr. Parkes brought the evening: to a close. Mr. Haybittle, a host, of the evening, mado a speech: of welcome to -M,iss Castles, and spoke most\ optimistically of the future of.music,' art, and literature among the; people of this country, who so far have played so small a part in therri. Mr. Barnes, in-a pleasant littlo speech, answered for"'Miss Castles, thanking them for the-kindly wishes for her success. A light supper was served, the small tables which had been left in the room looking very dainty with their decorations of coreopsis and other flowers. Mrs. M'Kenzie wore a black silk dress trimmed'with jet; Mrs. Lqughnan was in black satin 'with silver and jot insertion and lace; Mrs. Knox Gilmer, black satin, with a tunic dress of black fisher net; Mrs. Dyer, black Silk with jet ornaments; Miss Castles was in a dress of white crepe de chine with side panels, and at the back a panel of most handsomely embossed gold net; the lace on her corsage was also gold worked, and she wore a deep circlet or wide gold net. Some of those present wero Mrs. Hayward (Hutt), black satin, the corsage being trimmed with blue embroidered tulle; Mrs. Tringhara, white laco robe with'hlue edgings; Mrs. Quick, black silk with • gold sequinned trimming; Miss Payne, black silk and beaten silver scarf; Mrs. Montague, bluo silk with white lace berthe; Mrs. F. Johnston, ivory satin gown with pearl trimming; Miss Putnam, cream not with rose trimming; Miss S. Putnam, white silk frock; Mrs. Chatfield, whito'sequinned chiffon veiling,, white, satin; Mrs. Corliss,- black silk frock with jet; Mrs. Shirtcliffe, blue frock with Oriental trimming; Mrs. Macarthy, bluo /chiffon over emerald green; Mrs. King, black .silk dress; Miss Myers, silver grey charmeuse satin trimmed with point t lace; Miss — Myers, pink charmeuse with Oriental trimming; Miss Segrief, whito satin with silver trimming; Miss Hayward, floral .silk frock with heliotrope chiffon tucker.; Mrs. Wallace, pink silk dress with cream lace; Mrs. J. Parker, embroidered pink net frock; Miss K. Miller, white chiffon with floral scarf; Mrs. John Blundell, black silk with heliotrope trimming; Mrs. A. Samuel, white satin with gold motifs; Miss Marchant, •black silk frock; Miss — Marchant, floral crepe do chino frock with bluo touches; Miss G. do Castro, white chiffon and floral scarf; Mrs.' A. M. Samuel (Hutt), whito chiffon over blue, with gold trimming; Mrs. ' Corrigan, heliotrope frock with pearl embroidery; Mrs. Dall, grey'chiffon over apricot silk; Mr. and Mrs. P. P. -Webb, Mrs. La Trobe, and Miss Roberts, Miss Gibson, Miss ,Osbqrne-Gibbes,. the Misses Kano (2),. Mr.'and' Mrs. Myers, 'Mr. Tringham, Mr. and Mrs. Brodie, Mrs. Larnach, Mr. Louis Hattenbach, theMisses Haybittlo (2), Mr. Corrigan, and very many others.
