UNEMPLOYED ASIATICS.
DISTRESS AT PORT DARWIN. By Telegraph—r.-ess Association—Copyright. (Rco. March 1, 9.20 p.m.) Port Darwin, March 1. A deputation of unemployed Chinese and Malays has asked tho authorities here for employment or rations. Most of them arc old residents, and they pointed out that tho result of tho recent ordinance against Asiatic labour has been to deprive them of employment in the mining and fishing industries, and on tho wharves. Tho President promised to consult the Federal Government, and to sec what relief could bo provided. Besides robbing the Asiatics of their means of livelihood, their exclusion from Hie fishing industry, upon which the community is largely dependent, is being severely felt.
