Tho President has commissioned SI. Antoiuo Sfonis, the Republican-Radical senator for Gironde, (o form a Slinistry in succession to that of SI. liriand. Sr. Fallieres desired a Premier unconnected with Parliamentary struggles as better able to re-establish Republican union and to continue SI. Briand's policy. The Socialist-Radicals and tho SocialistRepublicans are exulted at tho selection of SI. Slonis, who was Minister for Justice in tho AValdeclc Rousseau Cabinet, but other sections aro more reserved. Tho following is tho distribution of portfolios as so far announced:— Prime Minister and Slinister for the Interior —SI. Slouis. Slinister for SVar—General Bertcaux. Minister for JJnrine—Sl. Delcasse. SI. Slonis is 65 years of age, and: is a wine-grower with estates in tho south of France. Ho was elected a member of tho Chamber of Deputies in 1885, and was returned for tho Senate, in which ho has sinco sat, in 18'Jl. Ho was Minister for Justice from 1899 to 1902, and was elected Vice-President of tho Senate in 1900.
