AN INTERESTING LETTER. Tho following interesting private letter has been received by Lieut". A. C. C. Stevens, of tho Junior Cadet Department, from l'ield-Marslial Lord Roberts:— "Englemere," Ascot, Berks, "11th January, 1911. "Dear Stevens,—l am greatly obliged for your letter of November 22, giving 1110 most interesting 'and useful details of tho working of tho new Defence Act, 191(1, in New Zealand. It seems to me quite est i nordinary that tho Junior Cadets can be clothed, equipped, and trained for approximately 10s. per head per annum. This .ipeslts volumes for tlio efficient way in which the Junior Cadet Department under the control of the Minister for Education is worked. 1 send under separate cover a copy of my book "•11 Years in India," for tlio best allround Junior Cadet of tno year, and shall be glad to hear to whom it has broil awarded. I am much obliged to you for letting me know of TJ.-Col. Baucllop being at the Staff College, and I will mako a point of meeting him, and if I am at any time in the neighbourhood, I will certainly eall 011 your sister Mrs. Conran at Yew Tree Farm. Plraso tell your storekeeper, Jfr. Mears, how i.ad I am to lioar of his welfare.
