FRENCH MINISTER'S SUDDEN END. Dy Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright. Paris', February 23. , General Bran, French Minister, for Wnr, died suddenly while at tho War Offico.
' General Brun was appointed to the French Cabinet in July. 1909, after having acted as Chief of the General Stuff of tho army for three and a half years. His record prior to his Cabinet appointment was an entirely non-political one. lie was born in April, 1819, and entered tho Ecolo Polytechnic)no in 1865. After obtaining a commission in tho Artillery, ho was garrisoned at Metz, and look part in tho Franco-Prussian War as second lieutenant. For tho next thirty years ho continued to servo in tho Artillery until 1901, when tho high qualities which ho had displayed in his various commands led to his appointment to succeed General do Lacroix as Commandant of the War School. Promoted to tho rank of General of Division 111 1901, ho was anpointed Chief of the General Staff of the army twelve months later, nnd in process of timo he became in addition a member of tho Army Council, of the Military Railways Committee, and of iho Geographical Committee. Tho dignity of Grand Officer of tho Legion of Honour was conferred upon him in 1908.
