CRICKET. TOUR OF THE SOUTH AFRICANS. AGAINST NEW SOUTH WALES. MACARTNEY STRIKES FORM . AGAIN. Dj Moeraph-Press As3oclaUon-Oopyr!zlit. (Rec. February 24, G. 30 p.m.) Sydnoy, February 24. Tho weather was fine and tho wicket perfect for tho return match South Africa v. New South Wales. Trumpcr won tho toss, and, in company with Bardslcy, opened tho batting to tho bowling of Pegler and Pcarso. Pcarso's second ball, a "yorkcr," bowled Trumper's middlo stump, and next over Bardslcy tipped a short ono into tho slips, and Snooko held it. Kolleway and M'Elhone wcro now together, and playing carefully soon caused a change in tho bowling. M'Elhono showed great freedom for a colt. At 33 Kolleway stood in front to ono from Pegler and was given out. Macartney following, received ironical cheers. 1 Ho J however, quickly settled down in a determined manner, and showed, in spito of many recent failures, that ho is not a back number. M'Elhono played faultlessly, and, with Macartney, completely collared tho bowling, tho youngster's hard drives and lato cuts being particularly attractive. Schwarz tried his wholo bowling contingent without success. 'At 38 Snooko, fielding in tho slips, missed a chance of catching Macartney, off Peglor. M'Elhono continued to forco. the pace, playing beautifully, but with his scoro standing at 94 ho had tho .bad luck, in pulling Sinclair to tho boundary, to "kick tlio wicket. Tlio orowd was disappointed at his missing the century. Ho had batted twoliours, and had hit 12 fours.
Collins joined Macartney, and quickly justified his inclusion in tho team. Macartnoy scorcd SO in an hour, and then played with ; greater - freedom, bringing'up his hundred ill another 40 minutes. At 119 Peglor caught Macartnoy at deep cover, off Faulkner. Tho retiring batsman had batted two hours and ten minutes, and had hit 1C fours. Collins and Emery established a forceful partnership, until tho former was caught at second slip by Strieker, off Nourse. Ho hit seven fourers. Emery' treated all tho bowling with great familiarity. Tho following are tho scores:— Now South Wales.—First Innings. Trumper, b. Pearse 5 Bardsley; c. Snooko, b.'Pearse 9 Kolloway, 1.b.w., b. Pegler '.. 33 M'Elhdne, hit wicket, b. Mr. Goro moved that every delegato shall vote ou all questions, in accordance with tho instructions ho has received from tho association ho represents. Every delegato who has received no instructions may voto according to his own discretion...
Mr. Keosing seconded tho motion. Ho thought delegates should carry out the instructions of their associations, but did not think tho motion as it stood would altogether meet tho case. ~ Mr. Dart snid a rulo was wanted to bind a dolegato to voto as instructed. As the present suggestion stood it would not meet tho case. What was required was that centres should givo tho association, say, seven days! notice when instructing delegates on any question.
Mr. Didsbury thought tho rulo would bo unworkable in its present form. Delegates, he took'it, wore all honourable men, and would carry out instructions given thorn. Mr. Hurley thought tho rulewould bo absolutely unworkable. Committees meeting outsido of Wellington . should not bo ablo.to di6tato to their representatives horo as to how they should vote on given questions. Tho instructions given had come to a farcical position. Every question should bo treated by tho council as representatives, and not as delegates.
Mr. F. Wilson could not' See why delegates should' bo bound by a hard and fast rule. Ho would vote against tho motion. ' .
Mr. F. Grady stated that tho Hawko's Bay Association was against r/io motion.
Mr. T. Gray supported tho motion. Ho thought tho mover should add that tho .council bo notified in advanco bv eacli association what instructions it had given to its delegate.
