REDUCTION AT LYTTELTON. . tßr Tclccranli.—Special CorresDondont.l Christchurch, February 20. At the meeting of tho Lyttelton Borough Council-to-night,-, a report was received from the Gns Committee,' recommending that the sum of J!200, being the sum set apart on tho estimates approved by tho council as tho contribution, to tho gasworks loan sinking fund, be paid over to tho commissioners for investment. Tho committee had considered the financial position of tho gas department for tho current year, and found that tho receipts for the sales of gas had been well maintained. Tho council was therefore advised to agreo'to a.further reduction in tho price of gas for lighting purposes to ss. lOd. .per 1000 cubio feet net, from April 1, 1911, thus making tho price of gas uniform for all purposes. Tho report was unanimously adopted, great satisfaction, being expressed by several councillors at tho sound financial position of the gasworks, and nt the reduction in tho price of gas from 10s. to ss. lOd. per 1000 feet since they wero acquired by the council eight and a half years ago.
