YACHTING.

The second raco of the season, under the auspices of the Wellington Cruising Yacht Club, took place on Saturday, a light southerly wind prevailing. As tbo yachts were desirous of attending the picnic held at Mahanga Bay by the Port Nicholson Yacht Club and the Motor Boat Club, it was arranged, that a short course from the ferro-concrete wharf and round the Falcon Shoal Beacon, finishing at Point Halswell Buoy, should be sailed. The start was under the Mark Foy system, the yachts' starting times being: Eona and Ngaira, 3.15 p.m.; Kotiri, 3.28 p.m.; White Heather, 3.30 p.m. The nnishing> times were: White Heather, 1.30 Uo) ;ICotiri, 4.31 (30); Rona, 4.37 (30); Ngaira, 4.40 (30). Mr. N. M'Bride acted as starter. A ladies' race and picnic, at Ward Island, takes place shortly. The yawl Ethel returned to the Boat Harbour on Sunday after a fortnight's cruise in-the Marlborough Sounds. . The Mahina, which has also been to " the Sounds, returned yesterday, morning. She took 14 hours to come across on account of the. wind dropping. The Mnritai left for a fortnight's cruise in Queen Charlotte Sound early on Sunday morning, and, after a smooth run across occupying. five and. a half hours, sho arrived •at her destination at"twelve_o'clock on Sunday.
