BISHOP OF AUCKLAND.
ELECTION TAKES.-. PLACE: TO-DAY. > 'The Anglican Synod of-the Diocese of Auckland will meet to : day for the elec- . tion of a Bishop in succession to Bishop Neligan, who resigned : last year owing. to a breakdown in his health. When the . Synod met in October last it was decided to offer, the position to the Her. J. P. ■ Maud, of Bristol, but he. was unable to . accept for' family reasons. The Synod then adjourned ■ the election, in order to give time for obtaining further information regarding suitable men. As there ore two rather clearly;divided'parties in v the Auckland Synod, it is 'not - a very ; easy matter to find a'man who will have tho support and confidence of both sides. \ The name of Archdeacon Crossley; of St. ■] Kilda, Melbourne, one of the leading men in the Anglican Church of-Victoria, has been yerv favourably mentioned, and it is qhittvVpossiblo .that .thß -Synod may ; decide to offer him-; the' Bishopric ofAuckland; but, of course, no oue can .tell what, the Synod may do, until the ballots are actually taken.- --In these elections the unexpected quite frequently happens.'
