GAS COMPANY PICNIC.
— : 1 :— The Wellington Gas Company Ltd.'s employees held their annual picnic -at Maidstono Park,- Upper Hutt, on Saturdav, and experienced beautiful weather, about 400 attending. Tho snorts resulted as follows;— 100 yards race. F. Lingard 1, R. Urwin 2;-Gas Company's handicap, 11. Smalllwue; bun and treaelo competition, l'\ O'Shca 1, W. Potter 2; lialf-milo handicap, Geo; Dcnsom -1, J. Casey 2; single women's wajking race, Miss Atkins 1, Miss Ilenshilwood-and Miss Wills 2; men's race (over 45 years), 'J. Gadd lj J. Whear 2; married women's walking race, Mrs. T. Hook 1, Mrs. Gregory 2; tug-of-waiy Fitting Department 1, Stokers 2; women's guessing competition, Mrs. lladfield 1, Mrs. Lingard 2.. Numerous races for tho children wero also held. Tlio following wero tho officers Judge, Mr. W. J. Stevens i handicappers, Messrs. Carman and Teaguc; committee, Messrs. J. Roberts, E. B.: Parsons, W. M'Clelland, W. llovord, 11. Sniallbone, J. Gadd. J. Whear, E. Carman,' J. Toajue, G. Densem, A. lladdon, and A. E. Banks; secretary, Mr. C. J. Ellison. The work of tho committco was mainly responsible for tho succoss of tho picnic, everything turning out satisfactorily. Tho managing director (Mr. W. Ferguson) and Messrs. J. If. Ilelliwell (secretary), and Mr.-A. DougnU (engineer) wero present. The crounds wero in good order, and tlio. commiltco expressed their thanks to Mr. Davis, custodian, for his attention. Toys were given to tho children, and Punch nnd Judy (managed by Mr. Densem) was much appreciated by them. A band was in-.attendance.
