A man named Harry Nettleton, a greengrocer and fruiterer, died iu the hospital early this-morning as the result , of an accident last night. Ho was driving his cart down Spencer Road, when his attention was momentarily diverted-from his horse. Tin animal swerved, and n shaft struck an iron fence. Ncttloton tried to jump clear, but fell,', and his head struck tho ground heavily, causing fracture of the baro oi the skull. An inquest will bo held'to-morrow;- • •.- •

An old ago pensioner, named Alexander North, 75 years of orc, appeared, hi tho Polieo Court to-day to ansvjer.a charge of attempting to commit suicide. nsked to plead, accused said: "I plead guilty. I can't do nnylhintc else; 1 did my best." Station-Sergeant King said that at half-past teveu this morning the police' were' told that the man hml been picked out of tho harbour. The constable found accused in a,boat with two men who had pulled him' out of the larbour. Accused, who smelt of drink when arrested, said ho had had a ; lot of worryWhen accused; was taken.' to tho police station, he was put in a padded cell and his clothes taken from him. Ho was afterwards found attempting to suffocate himself by shoving the end of a blanket down his throat. Carterton, February 15. ~ An inquest was held yesterday ioiv tho body of lvyUairstow.-wifcof W. .' j: Baii-stow, who was found dead in bed on Tuesday morning. Tho post-mortem examination showed that death was duo to a largo clot of blood at tho base of tho brain, caused through tho bursting of a basular artery. A verdict was returned in accordance with tho medical, evidence. ■■•'.'.'
A MOTOR-CAB ACCIDENT. At an early hour yesterday morning a taxi-cab, owned by Mr. T. P. Lyons, and driven by \V..Bennington, met with n mishap'in Sussex Square. According to tho drive the taxi was attempting to avoid ft pedestrian lit tho Caledonian Hotel corner when "the cab swerved into a tramway; pole. ' Tho forepart of tho car was badly damaged. The ooeupants of the car. Misses ifClreßor and Barnes, and Mr. F. Cole, were batlly shaken. Miss Barnes had her face and hnnd cut, and tho driver was cut about the car. Drs. Bowerbank nnd Cameron attended to tho injuries. ' ' .' '
