Highman, , who was at one time trading to New Zealand, from London on; tho No-v Zealand Shipping Company's old steamer Kaikoura, and also in the employ of the P. and 0. Company, arrived in Wellington on Saturday aftern-on by the Tongariro from London. It is twenty-two years ngo since Captain Highman visited tho Dominion. At that time ho brought tho Union .Company's steamer Brunncr out from Home, l'or some tima past Captain Highman has been in command of a Peruvian cruiser on the coast of Peru.
Mr. Fred Graham, the well-known comedian, has received word that his son, Dr. F. Graham, who visited Wellington with Mr. Alfred Hill's "Moorish Maid" Company, is now practising dentistry in Hong-hong.
• An Ashburton Press Association telegram Tenorts that the death, occurred shortly nfter midnight on Saturday, of Mr. Herbert Henry Fooks, 8.A., who, for the past ten years has acted in the dual capacity of town clork and engineer to ■ the- Ashburton Borough Council. Deceased, who was nged -41 years, had also for over eighteen years acted as assistant town clerk. .
