SHOTS FROM'HIS "FORT"'IN A LOFT. '
Tallemard, a vine dresser, who after seriously wounding his wifo took refuge in.tho .loft above nis houso at La Chap-clle-sous-Briancon (Saonc-«t-Loire) recently and afterwards, shot at his father, still defies tho authorities (says a Paris mossage of December 18). ' JIo is in a very excited mood, and fires from his "fort nt frequent intervals. One evening ho_.took aim at a servant who was passing the house, and tho charge passed close to his ear. Another shot from tho vino dresser's gun killed the dog of a neighbouring,farmer. Shortly after, 'J'allcmard threw from a window in tho loft a niece of paper containing his answer to the summons to surrende:'. No one would approach it, but when (lio wind blew it near enough for the gendarmes to pick it up, they read: "t will not hurt the viscount, but I will kill anyone else who dares to come near me." The viscount is Tallemnrd's landlord, the Viscomtc de Murnrd, whoso chateau is MO yard:) away. The rebellions vino dresser'lit a lamp as soon ns it became dark, and could be seen walking backwards and forwards in the loft all night. At three o'clock in tho morning ho climbed half way out of tho/opening ho had made in tho roof, but tho gendarmes immediately fired on him and ho retreated into his hiding-place. Later on ho appeared at tho window in tho side of tho loft and uttered violent threats.
