The. visitor said that.it. ; had struck him that NewZealand shows somewhat similar to those held in Scotland.' He had been very much struck by the exhibition of leaping by the lady riders; and :in.no 6ther part of the world had he seen such good jumping: , The "ladies hero : took somewhat higher jumps than the men-at Homo. New Zealand should stick to her; dairying. He believed that while Canada and Australia were the_ great Wheat-producing countries, New-.Zea.land was particularly suited to stock-raising.-Thia country was now- being looked, upun as one which could produce fine purebred stock. The Old Country had previously held premier place,, but now New Zealand was. well to the fore. He had been surprised to note the rato at which the b\<di had been cleared in the Danriorke.district, and ho had observed that the fields were- very' good, .though- (he country was suffering from drought. What'was wanted in Kcw Zealand r .was population, and we should not make the mistake of developing industries,- but turn attention to securing immigrants! The Home countries had market.? for all -New Zealand could produce. Hi 9 visit had dispelled manv wrong impressions of Xev; Zealand. Tie hnd met hundreds who had started hero witli nothing and made fortunes. '•'..'■ ''"■■.■■'■:
The Minister for".Agriculture endorsed Mr. Dunlop's views on want of population. Tf tho British people would not come, here, people of other nations should be given'o chance.
