WORKING CRIPPLED HORSES.

INSPECTOR VIGILANT. - Iu his periodical report of cases investigated of alleged cruelty to animals, the inspector of the Society 'for the' Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, at the forthnightly meeting of the committee yesterday, drew attention to a case which had come under his notice concerning, a horse ho hod seen yoked to a military ambul-. anco van standing near Lambton Quay. He found the animal to be a confirmed cripple," and drew the -Sergeant-major's attention to its condition. The horse had beeii hired in connection with a volunteer training ramp at Karori. The sergeantmajor at once said he would take it back to the livery stable from which it had been hired. This was done, and .the animal was subsequently sent out to the Ilntt to be destroyed. It was decided to refer the case to the society's solicitor, with a view to action being taken. deferring to another case, the inspector said lip had examined a horso belonging to it local fishmonger, and condemned it. The. rider of .the liorre, who weighed twelve stone, and was carrying a basket of orders as well, admitted that the hoifo 'iot A' lo ride. Tho inspector further stated that this .particular owner had been frequently, warned 011 this subject. In this instance, the society also decided to prosecute.
