TERRITORIAL FORCE.

AT TAUHERINIKAU CAMP. SOME "NOT QUITE" UP TO STANDARD. The General Oflicer Commanding tho Forces (Major-General A. J. Godley, C.8.), accompanied by Colonel A. W. Itobin, C.13. (Adjutant and Quartermaster-Gen-eral), and Captain D. C. Spencer-Smith (Staff Officer), left for tho camp at Tauheriniliau yesterday morning. Colonel Robin returned last evening. General Godley and Captain Spencer-Smith nro expected to return this afternoon. Tho following announcement with reference to tho probationary appointments at tho training camp is published by authority:— "Tlio following officers and non-commis-sioned officers havo loft the camp at Tauherinikau •--Captain Harris, Sergeants Don, Holden, Johnston, Kerr, Ryan, and Peers, some at their own request. iho Commandant hopes it will bo clearly understood that in no case has thero been any fault to find with these officers and non-commissioned officers. They have worked extremely hard aud well during tho whole time they havo been at camp, and only leavo becaliso it is realised by tho authorities, and in most cases by themselves, that they do not in all respects rniito fulfil the very high standard of military qualification required in new adjutants and area non-commissioned officers." Further appointments as probationary sergeant-instructors under the now defence scheme have been mado as follow:—Capfain J. W.' Edwards, Bulltown, AVaihi; Sergeant Morgan, Westport; Colour-Ser-geant Chapelbow, Denuiston: Sergeant M. Curran, Culverdon; Sergeant Valentine, Bluff: Colour-Sergeant O'Hara, Balclntha; Colour-Sergeant Alexander, Dunedin. Thoso will proceed to tho staff camp at Tauherinikau for training. NEWS AND NOTES. Captan Hamilton, at present ono of the aides-de-camp to his Excellency tho Governor, has, it is understood, resigned his position, and will shortly join tho General Staff at Defence Headquarters. Captain Hamilton is at present adjutant at tho Tauherinikau camp. Colonel E. W. C. Chaytor, Oflicer Commanding tho Wellington District, has gone to New Plymouth on official business. En route home again, ho will call at local centres—Hawera, Wanganui, and' Palmerston. As previously stated, thero will bo no general Easter training camps this year. Permission 'has now been granted for corps to hold their annual camps of training at Easier, should they so desire. ___________
